Pillar 03 · The Living Ledger
The Canopy
The rule is simple and has no exceptions: when capital is entrusted to the Endowment, the Foundation plants a grove. The portfolio grows; so does the forest.
Why trees
Children's issues, on a thirty-year delay
Climate, soil, shade and water decide what the childhoods of 2050 look like. A foundation for children that ignores the world those children will inherit has misread its own mandate. So beside the financial ledger we keep a second one, written in trees, with reforestation practitioners who have done this work for decades.
We can think of no better way for a fortune to introduce itself to the future.
The rules
How the Canopy grows
Native, or not at all
Groves are planted with established reforestation partners who select native species for each site. No monoculture plantations, no vanity rows.
Tended, not photographed
A planted tree is a promise, not a result. Our partners tend each grove through its vulnerable years, and we fund the tending, not just the planting.
Working groves
We favour plantings that serve children twice: agroforestry that shades and feeds a school, watershed forest above a clinic, mangroves guarding a village coastline.
On the ledger
Every grove is recorded against its mandate. In time, the register itself will be published here: where it stands, what was planted, how it fares.
Plant something permanent.
Every donation feeds the mission. Every mandate plants a grove.
